Using shallow sloping stainless steel and lead roofs the height of the building was maintained at a low level. The large overhangs provide an interesting roofline and give greater protection from the weather. Natural stack ventilation in the form of chimneys, is used to provide passive cooling. Materials are generally in keeping with the original buildings. The design successfully blends in with the existing, but it is clearly a building of its time.
