The building
is designed using traditional brick and tile externally to make
it part of the 'family' of existing buildings.
Internally it provides a 600-seat auditorium designed
to be switched easily between the acoustics required for speech
and music. The auditorium is provided with a full theatrical lighting
and sound installation together with additional lighting for school
assembly use. The large stage is served by a theatre workshop,
costume store and generous backstage areas which double as drama
teaching areas and a 130-seat, fully flexible, studio theatre.
There is also a drama library, an office for the head of drama,
a box office and a double-height entrance foyer.
To supplement the main auditorium, there is an
informal 'small performance space' capable of seating 70 and intended
for choir rehearsals and impromptu lunchtime concerts, recitals,
poetry readings, etc. |
