Our first swimming pools were for residential clients, although with the second of these, we used what was then the fairly new technology of heat-pumps for both water and space heating, with a complete dehumidification system built in. We also looked very carefully at the questions of insulation and, crucially, vapour barriers, in order to minimise running costs and reduce maintenance.
Since then, as the following pages show, we have been responsible for a number of pool projects, both new-build and the alteration and enclosure of existing outdoor pools.
We have continued to develop a well-researched policy with respect to the thermal enclosure of the buildings, paying particular attention to the avoidance of cold bridging, to avoid the risk of condensation and to minimise running and maintenance costs. In this way, by carefully-considered detailing, it has been possible to achieve first-class results using relatively economic forms of construction.
